A: Contract packing is the outsourcing of packing tasks to expert providers – often including filling, packing and labelling. Glowcroft offers contract packing services and works with businesses to understand their products and help them find the most effective packing solutions, then carries out the packing for the customer. Q: Why use a co-packer? A: Businesses use co-packers when they don't have the facilities, machinery or expertise to carry out quality packing tasks in-house — for one-off promotions, outsourcing when capacity is short, or as a sole manufacturer. Q: What is the lead time? A: After a quote is accepted and PO received, lead time is generally 4 weeks, varying with machine availability and component lead times. Q: What is the MOQ? A: Determined at the quoting stage, since every product packed is different. Glowcroft supports customers from aspiring new brands to large multinational brands. Q: What types of products can you pack? A: A wide range using auto or semi-auto machines: dry free flowing, granular powder, liquids, semi-moist, kit collations, and custom items. Q: How do you code products? A: Inkjet coding or thermal transfer applied directly to finished products in-line, as part of quality and traceability procedures. Q: Do you offer distribution & storage? A: No — only work-in-progress component storage. Glowcroft arranges collections and distribution, and works with third-party storage providers for additional space. He joined our design department in 2006, and he's been there ever since. Twenty years of turning up, doing the work, and doing it properly, through every change this business has been through in that time. He's built the department into what it is today, and he's still the person people go to when design needs to be right. That kind of consistency doesn't happen by accident. Paul has shown up and cared about getting the detail right, one spec and one project at a time, building a reputation for work you don't need to double-check. It's the sort of reputation that takes years to earn and is easy to lose, and Paul has held onto it for two decades. Loyalty like that deserves saying out loud, so we're saying it. Thank you, Paul, for twenty years of commitment to Glowcroft. Twenty years is a long time to stay anywhere, and it's a long time to stay this good at something. Paul's been part of the backbone of this business for two decades, and we're lucky to have him Jayne Tarrant, Managing Director - Published: 2026-08-24 - Modified: 2026-08-24 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/guides/what-actually-separates-two-similar-co-packer-quotes/ When two contract packing quotes land within a few percent of each other on price, the decision should come down to how each supplier handles change, not what's printed on the price sheet. That's the part most evaluation processes skip, because it's harder to score than a cost-per-unit line, and it's the part that ends up mattering most once a contract is twelve months in. Why the Quotes Converge in the First Place Most mid-sized brand owners going out to tender for contract packing end up with quotes that look remarkably similar. This isn't a coincidence. Co-packers in the same sector are usually buying similar materials from a similar supplier base, running similar equipment, and pricing against similar margins. Once you've normalised for volume and format, the numbers naturally cluster. That's exactly why price stops being a useful differentiator past a certain point in the process. If three suppliers are within four or five per cent of each other, the deciding factor isn't going to be found by asking for a fourth round of quotes. It's going to be found by asking a different set of questions entirely. The Five Things Worth Actually Comparing 1. Format and material flexibility. Can the co-packer run your current format and pack sizes without significant retooling, and do they have genuine flexibility if you need to change pack size, format, or material for a new retail listing or an EPR-driven packaging change? A supplier locked into one line type will quote well for your... - Published: 2026-08-10 - Modified: 2026-08-10 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/what-it-actually-means-when-a-co-packer-has-design-and-materials-expertise-in-house/ # Getting Retail Packaging Right First Time ## What retailers actually require Retailer packaging specifications exist to protect the operational efficiency of their supply chains. They're not bureaucratic preferences — they're engineering requirements, and they govern decisions that run much deeper than how something looks on shelf. A typical retailer spec covers: barcode placement and scan grade, case configuration and count, inner pack format, pallet height and layer count, date coding position and format, label requirements including legal text and country of origin, and in some cases specific material standards based on sustainability commitments. Every retailer has their own version of this document. What one national grocery chain requires is not what a specialist garden centre buying group requires. Getting one right doesn't mean you understand the others — and that's worth knowing before you brief a packer. ## When the conversation happens matters as much as what's in it The brands who handle retail compliance well aren't necessarily more experienced than those who find it difficult. The differentiator is almost always timing — how early they bring the specification into the packaging brief, and whether their packing partner is equipped to act on it. At Glowcroft, we build the retailer spec conversation into the earliest stage of any retail-facing brief. Not because it's procedurally correct, but because it's where it does the most good. Identifying a case count mismatch at the concept stage costs nothing to resolve. Identifying it after artwork sign-off is a different kind of conversation —... - Published: 2026-08-10 - Modified: 2026-08-10 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/glowcroft-is-now-fias-accredited/ Fertiliser doesn't behave like most products that pass through a packing line. Get the traceability wrong, or lose control of who's handling a pallet and where it ends up, and the consequences go well beyond a customer complaint, they touch public safety. That's the standard our horticulture customers hold their supply chain to. It's why we've spent the last several months preparing our horticultural packing operation for independent audit against the Fertiliser Industry Assurance Scheme, and as such we're proud to confirm: Glowcroft is FIAS accredited. What FIAS actually checks FIAS is the UK's industry-led assurance scheme for fertiliser safety, security and traceability, run by the Agricultural Industries Confederation. It covers everyone who touches a fertiliser product on its way to the field: manufacturers, packers, merchants, hauliers and storage sites. It's independently audited by Kiwa. The scheme exists because fertiliser, done badly, is a security risk as much as a quality one. FIAS sets out how it should be stored, handled and moved so that it only ever ends up where it's meant to: on legitimate agricultural, horticultural, forestry or commercial amenity land, and nowhere else. Getting accredited meant an external audit of exactly how we run our horticultural lines: stock segregation, site security, documentation, traceability from goods-in to despatch, and how our team is trained to spot and handle anything that looks wrong. We passed it because it's close to how we already run the site - FIAS just puts an independent stamp on it. What it means for... - Published: 2026-06-16 - Modified: 2026-06-16 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/why-brands-that-win-peak-season-start-talking-to-their-co-packer-in-june/ A brand founder, usually a good one, smart, commercially minded, with a product that'll genuinely sell, has confirmed their Christmas gifting SKU. The artwork is done. The packaging concept is solid, and they need a co-packer who can turn it around in six weeks. We'll do what we can. We work hard to get them where they need to be, and more often than not we find a way. But the experience is never as clean as it should be, tighter margins on the run, compressed timelines, less room to get the format exactly right. Everyone works harder than necessary. The brands we enjoy working with most aren't the ones we rescued in September. They're the ones who called in June. This article is about why that conversation happens so much earlier than most brands expect, and why the ones who get that right tend to get everything else right too. The problem with "we'll sort the co-packer once the brief is ready" It's an understandable instinct. You don't want to waste a supplier's time with a half-formed idea. You want to present something professionally. So you wait until the product is confirmed, the artwork is approved, the volumes are agreed. The problem is that by the time you're ready, the slots are gone. At Glowcroft, Q4 production planning starts in Q2. We're allocating capacity now for Christmas gifting, seasonal wellness, and autumn retail windows. The brands in those conversations will have confirmed production dates, confirmed material costs, and time... - Published: 2026-06-08 - Modified: 2026-06-08 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/getting-retail-packaging-right-first-time/ Blog / Articles - [Getting Retail Packaging Right First Time](https://glowcroft.co.uk/blog/getting-retail-packaging-right-first-time): Article for brand owners, founders, and procurement leads preparing for a UK retail listing. Covers what retailer packaging specifications actually govern (barcode placement and scan grade, case configuration, inner pack format, pallet height, date coding, label requirements), why timing the specification conversation at brief stage — rather than after artwork sign-off — determines whether a launch runs smoothly. Explains Glowcroft's in-house design and materials specification capability and how it enables compliance to be built into packaging from the start rather than retrofitted. Includes a commercial perspective from Dan Richards, Commercial & Marketing Director. Relevant to: contract packing, retail compliance, packaging specification, co-packer selection, FMCG, pet, horticulture, wellness sectors. - Published: 2026-05-26 - Modified: 2026-05-26 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/designing-for-scale-how-the-right-co-packer-protects-your-brand-through-growth/ Scaling a brand is one of the most exciting and demanding phases any business goes through. The commercial momentum is there, the market has validated the product, and the opportunity is clear. What determines whether that growth lands well, on shelf, in retailer relationships, in brand reputation, is largely operational. And at the centre of that is whether your packing partner is genuinely built to grow with you. At Glowcroft, designing for scale isn't an afterthought. It's the starting point. Growth readiness is built in from the first conversation When we begin working with a brand, one of the first questions we ask is where they're heading commercially over the next 12–24 months. The answer shapes everything that follows; format recommendations, material sourcing, running plans, capacity allocation. This matters because scaling from 10,000 units to 50,000 or 100,000 is a format, material, and process conversation, not just a volume one. Brands that have those conversations at the start, with a co-packer who understands both the operational and commercial picture, grow with confidence. Their packaging performs consistently at higher volumes. Their retailer relationships stay clean. Their brand lands on shelf exactly as intended. That's what it means to have a packing partner genuinely invested in your growth. Manufacturing-ready design changes what's possible One of the structural advantages Glowcroft offers is design capability inside the packing operation. Our design team works alongside the people running the production lines, which means format recommendations are built around manufacturability from day one, not retrofitted once... - Published: 2026-05-18 - Modified: 2026-05-18 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/what-reliable-co-packing-actually-looks-like-the-glowcroft-approach/ There's a particular confidence that comes with knowing your production will run exactly as planned. At Glowcroft, that confidence is built on a structured pre-production process and a design team that works directly alongside the production floor. Here's what reliable co-packing actually looks like in practice. The confidence that comes with getting it right There's a particular confidence that comes with knowing your production is going to run the way you planned it. Right lead time. Right specification. Right quantity. Your brand on shelf when your customer expects it, looking exactly as it should. That confidence isn't luck. It's the product of a process, one that starts well before a run is booked and shapes every decision made in the project. At Glowcroft, we've built the way we work around that outcome. And the clearest thing we've learned is that reliable production starts with a clear brief. Pre-production alignment: where reliability is built Every project that comes to our floor goes through a structured pre-production alignment before a date is confirmed. Format, material specification, pack configuration, artwork production-readiness, we work through these methodically, because the time invested here is what protects our clients' timelines downstream. We ask questions early that might feel premature: Is the packaging format confirmed and production-viable? Has the material specification been finalised? Is the artwork file structurally as well as visually approved? These questions are far easier to answer in week one than in week five, and the difference in outcome is significant. When a project is properly set up, it runs, and our clients' products reach the shelf the way the brand intended. The brands we run most reliably are the ones who come to these conversations with clear briefs, confirmed specifications, and an understanding that the production window begins with... - Published: 2026-04-27 - Modified: 2026-04-27 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/compliance-as-advantage/ Your co-packer knows the formats and the line. But do they know what those decisions cost you in EPR fees? That conversation should start at the brief. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is the regulation most brand owners are still treating as an admin problem. Report the data. Pay the fees. Move on. That approach will cost you more than you think, and it's one of the reasons we think the brief you give your co-packer needs to change. What EPR Actually Means for Your Packaging Decisions Under EPR, producers are required to report on the type, weight, and recyclability of every packaging format they put on the market, and pay fees that are directly modulated by how recyclable that packaging is. The less recyclable, the higher the fee. The better the RAM rating, the lower the liability. Which means that a format decision made at the briefing stage now has a direct line to your cost base. Not just in production, but in compliance fees. Most brands don't realise how much that changes the conversation they should be having with their packing partner. Where We Come In At Glowcroft, we don't just run the line. We have an in-house design team and materials specialists who work alongside our packing operation, and that combination matters more now than it ever has. When a brand brings us a brief, we can look at the proposed format and ask the question most co-packers won't: is this the right format for where the regulation is going, and what will it cost you if it isn't? That might mean identifying that a current substrate carries a poor recyclability rating and suggesting an... - Published: 2026-04-22 - Modified: 2026-04-22 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/recyclable-packaging-is-no-longer-optional/ The brands winning in retail today aren't just making great products. They're making them responsibly, and packaging is where that promise either holds up or falls apart. With UK EPR charges now live and the EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) reshaping supply chains across Europe, what's inside the box matters less if the box itself becomes a liability. Sustainable packaging has been on brand radar for years. But for much of that time it was a nice-to-have, a CSR talking point, a line in the annual report. That era is over. Regulation has caught up with ambition, and the cost of ignoring it is now measurable in pounds, not just reputation points. This article breaks down what's changed, what it means for your packaging decisions, and how working with the right contract packing partner gives you an edge as the rules tighten further. Why now? The regulatory shift that changes everything For years, the packaging industry operated in a voluntary space when it came to recyclability. Brands could make sustainability claims on their own terms. That's changed fundamentally, first in the UK, and now across Europe. Two pieces of regulation are driving the shift: the UK's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging, and the EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Together, they represent the most significant structural change to packaging compliance in decades. They don't just ask brands to report — they charge them based on what their packaging is made of and how recyclable it is.... - Published: 2026-03-27 - Modified: 2026-03-27 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/wellness/7847/ Bath and wellness products look simple on the shelf. A pouch of Epsom salts, a resealable bag of mineral bath soak, a gift set of three variants. Clean, premium, considered. Getting them there is a different story. Mineral salts and oil-blended bath products present a specific set of handling challenges that not every contract packer is set up to manage. If you've run into problems with a previous packing partner, there's a good chance the issue wasn't negligence, it was inexperience with the product category. A dedicated unit for wellness brands Unlike contract packers who treat every product category the same way, Glowcroft operates a dedicated Wellness unit; a specialist team with its own workflows, processes, and category knowledge, focused exclusively on bath, mineral, and wellbeing products. That means the people running your line aren't generalists adapting on the fly. They've done it before, they know the specific challenges this category presents, and they've built the controls around them. What makes mineral salt products different The core challenge with mineral salts is that they're hygroscopic, they absorb moisture from the air. Environmental control during filling isn't optional. It's the difference between a free-flowing product that fills cleanly and consistently, and one that clumps, bridges in the hopper, or varies in weight across a run. Oil-blended variants add another layer. Achieving consistent distribution of oils through a salt base requires the right mixing process and the right production sequence. Get it wrong and you end up with inconsistency across SKUs, or... - Published: 2026-03-27 - Modified: 2026-03-27 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/horticultural/why-april-is-the-most-important-month-for-horticulture-brands-and-what-to-do-about-it/ If you sell into the garden and horticulture market, you already know April is non-negotiable. Retailers are stocked. Consumers are buying. The season is live. What most brands don't talk about is what happens behind the scenes to make April work, and what goes wrong when it doesn't. The peak season pressure point By the time April arrives, your contract packer should be well into your production run. Volumes confirmed. Formats agreed. Labels printed. If you're still having conversations about pack specs or finalising purchase orders in April, you're already behind. The brands that consistently have a smooth season are the ones who started planning in January. Not because they're more organised, but because they've learned the hard way what late planning costs. What upselling actually looks like in season April is also when smart brands take advantage of live momentum. If a line is selling well at retail, that's the moment to think about: Bundle formats and shelf-ready trays POS units and display-ready configurations Additional SKUs that complement what's already working These conversations are easier to have when your packer is already running your line. We know your spec, your formats, your lead times. Adding volume or a new SKU is a conversation, not a project. The replacement conversation Peak season is also when you start seeing what worked and what didn't, pack formats that are fiddly to fill, SKUs that aren't turning as expected, formats competitors are running that you're not. That intelligence feeds directly into next year's... - Published: 2026-03-12 - Modified: 2026-03-12 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/the-hidden-cost-of-just-packing-it/ Why contract packing is often misunderstood, and what brands should actually be looking for When most people think about contract packing, they picture a fairly simple transaction. A product arrives. It gets packed. It ships. On the surface, it looks straightforward. But anyone who has ever tried to launch or scale a product knows that the reality is very different. Behind every finished pack on shelf sits a web of operational detail, regulatory responsibility, packaging compatibility, logistics coordination, and quality control. If any one of those pieces goes wrong, the consequences are felt immediately, often by the brand whose name sits on the front of the pack. This is where the real role of a contract packer begins to reveal itself. The best partners don’t simply fill products. They remove complexity. The unseen complexity behind every product launch Brands today are moving faster than ever. New product development cycles are shorter. Retail expectations are higher. Consumers expect quality, consistency, and speed to market. At the same time, the operational environment has become significantly more complex. Brands now need to consider: Packaging compatibility and filling performance Regulatory compliance and traceability Material supply and availability Production efficiency and cost control Storage, fulfilment, and transport Quality assurance and repeatability Each of these areas introduces risk. When managed poorly, they slow launches, increase costs, and create unnecessary pressure across the organisation. When managed well, they become invisible. That is ultimately the value of a strong contract packing partner. Why the cheapest solution is rarely... - Published: 2026-02-16 - Modified: 2026-02-16 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/how-software-is-empowering-smarter-co-packing/ At this year’s Packaging Innovations & Empack, our Managing Director Jayne Tarrant joined Emma Verkaik, Ian W. and Josephine Coombe on a panel hosted by Nulogy to explore a simple but important question: How does software enable successful co-packing? It was a relevant discussion for where our industry is heading. Contract packing is no longer just about capacity and speed. It is about control, transparency, and the ability to support brands in an increasingly complex environment. For our customers, that complexity is very real. Why This Matters to Our Customers Every brand we work with is under pressure. Retailers expect flawless execution. Regulators demand tighter compliance. Sustainability reporting is increasing. Launch windows are shorter. Forecasts shift. SKUs multiply. Behind the scenes, that creates operational tension, and if that tension is not managed properly, it shows up as delays, miscommunication, stock inaccuracies, or compliance risks. This is where software stops being an internal operational tool and becomes a customer advantage. At Glowcroft, we use Nulogy to manage our contract packing operations. It connects scheduling, stock control, production data, and reporting into one structured system. That means we are not relying on fragmented spreadsheets or manual updates. We are working from a shared, accurate source of truth. For our customers, that translates into something tangible: confidence. Confidence that materials are tracked properly. Confidence that production is monitored accurately. Confidence that records are clean and audit-ready. Confidence that when we say something is on schedule, it genuinely is. From Reactive to Controlled One... - Published: 2025-10-21 - Modified: 2025-10-21 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/why-outsourcing-your-packaging-could-be-the-smartest-move-you-make/ Launching and growing a brand takes energy, creativity, and focus. The last thing you need is your time eaten up by packaging headaches; sourcing materials, managing suppliers, juggling timelines, and firefighting quality issues. That’s where outsourcing comes in. And it’s why brands across pet, horticulture, wellness, and household sectors are partnering with Glowcroft to scale faster and smarter. From Stress to Simplicity Many founders and NPD teams reach a tipping point: production outgrows the kitchen table, or existing suppliers can’t keep pace with demand. Suddenly, the complexity starts to outweigh the creativity. Outsourcing to a trusted contract packing partner like Glowcroft means you can focus on what you do best - brand, product and growth - while we handle the behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything moving. We manage the materials, the packing, and the compliance so you can manage the vision. The Glowcroft Difference There’s no shortage of companies who can “fill and pack. ” But very few who do it like us. Glowcroft combines 35+ years of experience with an agile, design-led approach, helping brands of every size turn ideas into shelf-ready reality. Get the cheapest quote, get the boxes filled, get it out the door. Job done. But here’s the truth: treating your packer as a transactional supplier leaves value on the table. It ignores the opportunity to gain a partner who doesn’t just fill, but helps you grow. Partnership is different At Glowcroft, we don’t want to be “just a supplier. ” We want to be the brand behind your brand - the team that sweats the details, solves the problems, and makes the complex feel easy. Here’s what partnership looks like in practice: Shared ownership of outcomes – If your pack isn’t right, we’re not happy. Simple as that. Proactive problem-solving – Spotting issues early, suggesting better formats, helping you avoid costly mistakes. Agility under pressure – Switching lines, or reshuffling schedules to make sure you hit the retail slot. Emotional investment – Caring about your launch like it’s our own. Because in a way, it is. Scaling made simple: Pack, Pack+ and Pack Premium The strongest partnerships grow with you. That’s why our services are built around three clear tiers: Pack – Straightforward, lean packing when you simply need speed and efficiency. Pack+ – Add sourcing support alongside packing, so you can focus on brand-building while we handle the supply chain detail. You’ve got the ambition and the demand, but not always the infrastructure, budget, or appetite for risk to match. One of the biggest blockers? Packaging and packing. Traditional supply chains demand big MOQs, long lead times, and hefty upfront investment. For ambitious brands, that can mean delaying launches or gambling with volumes you don’t need. That’s exactly why short-run packing solutions are such a powerful growth lever. What short-runs make possible With the right partner, short-run production isn’t a compromise, it’s a strategy. It lets you: Test new ideas safely – Trial seasonal flavours, new pack formats, or reformulated products without over-committing. Enter retail with confidence – Supply a buyer with the quantities they need for a first listing, not warehouse-filling volumes. Manage cashflow – Keep capital free for brand building, not sunk into stock that risks going out of date. React fast – Pivot to market demand, whether that’s a sudden sales spike or a packaging update. Our Pack-Only service in action At Glowcroft, our Pack-Only is designed with exactly these needs in mind: Pack-only focus – You provide the product and packaging, we handle the packing. Low MOQs – Projects start small, but still meet full retail standards. Lean, fast, flexible – Designed to slot into your growth journey without unnecessary friction. This keeps costs lean, speeds projects up, and gives scaling brands a way to build... - Published: 2025-08-13 - Modified: 2025-08-13 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/why-agile-packing-wins-in-the-pet-sector/ How speed & flexibility help brands meet seasonal and trending demand The pet sector doesn’t wait, and neither should you In the pet industry, trends move almost as fast as tails wag. From seasonal launches like Christmas advent calendars to TikTok-fuelled treat crazes, the ability to move quickly is often the difference between riding the wave and missing the boat. For brand owners, it’s rarely the idea that’s the problem, it’s getting that idea packed, compliant, and on shelves in time. That’s where agile packing comes in. The agility advantage Agile packing is more than just “fast turnaround. ” It’s the ability to flex capacity, switch formats, and react to demand spikes without losing quality. In the pet sector, that means: Seasonal Speed – Advent calendars, Valentine’s gift packs, Easter treats... if you can think it, we can pack it, in weeks, not months. Trend-Responsive Runs – Jump on social media trends with small, rapid production runs to test the market before scaling. Low MOQ Freedom – Launch without overcommitting to massive volumes, reducing risk and freeing up capital. Why speed matters in pet retail Pet owners are some of the most enthusiastic, brand-loyal shoppers you’ll find. But they also love novelty. Seasonal SKUs and limited editions create urgency, boost basket value, and deepen emotional connection. Retail buyers know this too. Which means if you can’t meet a seasonal or trending opportunity, another brand will. How Glowcroft makes it happen We’ve built our pet-sector reputation on being the team that... - Published: 2025-08-06 - Modified: 2025-08-13 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/helping-pet-brands-launch-treats-that-look-as-good-as-they-taste/ If you're launching a pet treat brand, you already know the product matters, but so does the packaging. You can have the best treats on the market, but if the pack looks like an afterthought or fails on shelf. At Glowcroft, we work with founders and early-stage pet brands who are growing fast but hitting friction. You’ve got a brilliant product, a clear brand identity, and real momentum, but packaging is slowing you down. Minimum order quantities are too high. Lead times are too long. That’s where we come in. We don’t just fill and seal bags. We help you build a pack that works for your product, your audience, and your business model, whether that’s direct-to-consumer, Amazon, farm shops, garden centres, or national retail. Launching a new product comes with enough pressure. And packaging — especially in the pet treat space — adds another layer of complexity. Here's why: Short-run challenges: Most co-packers don’t want to touch anything under 25,000 units, but that’s not where your business is yet. Too many decisions, not enough clarity: Pouch vs tub? Gloss vs matte? Resealable? Compostable? What’s actually going to work? No design guidance: Most fillers expect you to show up with artwork, cutter guides, and materials sorted. However, if you’re new to this, that’s a massive ask. We’ve seen it all. And we’re set up to make sure you don’t have to. What Glowcroft brings to the table We’ve spent decades helping ambitious brands grow from idea to shelf, and we’ve... - Published: 2025-07-28 - Modified: 2025-07-28 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/launch-learn-repeat-how-to-build-agility-into-every-pack/ Speed has become the new currency in retail. Brands that win aren’t always the biggest, they’re the ones who can move quickly, adapt fast, and still deliver quality and compliance under pressure. That’s the space Glowcroft operates in. For over 35 years, we’ve been the bolt-on team that helps ambitious brands get product to shelf, without the chaos. Whether it's a seasonal launch, a short run for trial, or a rapid pivot to meet buyer demand, we’re the partner that makes it happen. Because we’ve learned one thing: agility isn’t about winging it. It’s about structure, systems and people who know how to flex without losing control. Small runs. Tight timelines. No problem. Glowcroft is built for this. We run over 20 packing lines across five production units, with everything from: Sachets and sample formats for product trial Pouch filling (25g to 2kg) Hand-assembled gift packs, advents, and seasonal formats Cartons, tubes, bottles and tubs Manual and auto lines for everything in between We even have dedicated Christmas lines, because we know how hard it is to scale that kind of volume when everyone else is maxed out. Agility backed by infrastructure It’s not just our kit that’s built for speed. It’s our model. We combine permanent team knowledge with flexible staffing, SEDEX/DEFRA/ISO accreditations, real-time traceability via Nulogy, and full production transparency. At Glowcroft, we view contract packing as a strategic growth enabler. One that sits at the intersection of operations, creativity, and customer experience. So what does that actually mean? It means we don’t just wait for boxes and components to arrive so we can stick them together and ship them out. We partner earlier, ask better questions, and work smarter to ensure that what leaves our doors sets your brand up to succeed. Because what happens in packing impacts everything: The shelf presence of your product The consistency of your customer experience The cost and complexity of your operations The time it takes to get to market Your ability to scale without friction What does a good contract packing partner really look like? For us, it’s about: Agility: If you're running short, switching formats, or launching something new, you need a partner who can flex without delay. Reliability: No missed deadlines. No quality slips. Just a trusted process that delivers consistently. Problem solving: We don’t just follow instructions. This standard certifies that we apply formalised business processes, and some organisations make it a prerequisite that their suppliers are registered. For us, it meant reviewing all of our business processes and then undergoing an independent inspection. We will be audited once a year to ensure our ongoing compliance. Not only do we have to encompass new systems and make them endemic throughout our business, but we are also committing to a plan of continual improvement to maintain our registered status. Why would we go to all this effort? Quite simply because it shows you, our customers and suppliers, that we care about the way we do business. It is a recognised hallmark that shows we apply and achieve a minimum standard. Following defined procedures makes us more efficient and helps to improve quality so we can continue to provide you with a cost-effective service. - Published: 2011-11-05 - Modified: 2023-09-21 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/how-do-you-reduce-packaging-make-it-a-part-of-the-product/ With the negative effects of plastic on the planet now being discovered, there is an emphasis on waste reduction for companies and consumers alike. But how do you reduce packaging without compromising the product itself? One company we worked with – Grow Your Own Pots – wanted to find a solution to this problem, and we came up with an inventive solution: make the packaging part of the product! The product – a kit allowing you to grow your own fruit/veg at home – consists of a 500ml outer pot; an inner, holed pot; plant seeds; and growing medium. All the packaging is recyclable. The outer pot has a dual purpose – it forms the packaging and doubles up as a watertight container for the inner pot. This plan did not come without its complications. The first challenge was to find the right growing medium. It had to support both seedlings and the maturing plants. It also had to be of a consistency that would flow through our machine without clogging – many composts and other growing media are too lumpy for this. Thirdly, it had to be fibrous enough that in transit it didn’t all run out of the holed pot. Finally, we had to be able to measure out very small quantities. Once we had sourced a suitable growing medium, the next step was sealing the package. For this, we invested in a pot-sealing machine. The machine we acquired can film- seal all kinds of containers and is... - Published: 2007-06-07 - Modified: 2023-09-21 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/glowcroft-news/mr-big-bags-a-winner-for-glowcroft/ As our business has expanded along with our customer base, requirements for jobs have increased. To better serve our clients, we have now invested in an additional machine to allow us to fulfil more customer orders. The new equipment – nicknamed ‘Mr Big’ by our production staff because of its mammoth size – is a specialist form fill and seal machine that creates packs containing quantities from 100g right up to a whopping 5Kg. Mr Big not only creates the larger packs, but also has an attachment to produce the block-bottom that makes packs self-supporting so they sit neatly on a shelf. With Mr Big, everything from weighing right through to sealing is computer-controlled, speeding up the packing process. We can now create more packs per minute than ever before. Thanks to the computerisation, we can also print barcodes directly onto the packaging, saving money for our customers. Because we can apply the barcode information at the last minute, we can use a universal printed film for different packs – there’s no need to have a separate film for each batch. All in all, the verdict is that Mr Big is a winner! If you have any jobs that could benefit from Mr Big’s efficiency, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team who would be delighted to help. ## Case Studies - Published: 2026-06-08 - Modified: 2026-06-08 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/case-study/clarion-spa/ # Case Study: Clarion Spa x Glowcroft Limited ## Summary Glowcroft Limited partnered with Clarion Spa, a UK wellness brand specialising in chlorine-free hot tub care products, to deliver a combined toll manufacturing and co-packing solution. They supplied a small suite of existing brand assets including; logo, fonts, and the hero image for the front panel, and needed us to build from there. The challenge was to integrate these assets into a refreshed design that not only aligned with the current brand identity but also stood out on crowded retail shelves. The Challenge With four different SKUs, each featuring a unique flower variety, sourcing imagery that was both accurate and visually cohesive proved tricky. We needed to ensure each pack was distinctive while keeping the overall look consistent and recognisably “Bee Friendly. ” Balancing colour, composition, and print performance across the range was key to maintaining strong shelf presence. Our Approach Working closely with the client, our design team explored layout concepts that retained the essence of the original branding while introducing more vibrancy and contrast to catch the shopper’s eye. We optimised each design for print using GMG ColourProof to ensure accuracy and consistency across all four artworks. Final PDFs were signed off swiftly, keeping the project on track for seasonal delivery. The Development The Packaging “This was our first time using a packing company and Glowcroft exceeded my expectations. They made the process easy to understand and kept me informed throughout. Glowcroft didn’t mind helping me navigate through them and I have no hesitation in recommending them to everyone except my competitors. ” Khalid Khames More case studies* * Like what you see? - Published: 2023-07-06 - Modified: 2023-09-28 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/case-study/mcadams/ A helping hand for a customer and our four-legged friends Mcadams packaging solution Sourcing the McAdams collaboration kit packaging* McAdams Pet Foods contacted us with regards to a packaged kit they were working on with the RSPCA. McAdams wanted to place a food sample into a small mailable box containing a brochure, which could then be packed in an outer box which specifically needed to hold a certain number of inner boxes. The Concepts The sales team worked hard to source and test out many different sized cartons and boxes to find one that would be just right for the job. At Glowcroft we have a great relationship with our suppliers and can usually deliver a specific type of packaging without compromising on quality. The Result Once the sales team had tested out the packaging and found the right fit, the job was then put into production where we made up the kits for them just how they needed. "Thanks for the first-class job you did for us. It was a small and difficult piece of work, and I am grateful that you took it on for us and managed the entire process professionally - I was very impressed. ” neil McAdams More case studies* * Like what you see? - Published: 2023-06-29 - Modified: 2023-09-28 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/case-study/carbon-gold/ Reaching a Gold standard in efficiency and sustainability DEDICATED SERVICE Developing a partnership for growth with Carbon Gold* Carbon Gold approached us with a view to packing their Biochar range and reviewing the packaging that now needed an upgrade for sustainability. Previously the range was packed into black tubs that didn’t have any recyclable value so we moved to a more sustainable material, which we tested with product to meet the required standards. The second phase was a move to cartons for the larger size, again with sustainability at the heart of the decision. Cardboard with its obvious recyclable benefits. Printing is carefully managed to ensure the highest quality is maintained and the finished, packed product sets the same consistent, high standard each time. The design has evolved over the decades and recently received a further refresh thanks to the team at Glowcroft. The logo and branding was modernised and the packaging was improved by introducing resealable pouches into the range, and by adding measuring scoops to each pouch for consumer convenience. Pouches are weather resistant which is ideal for a gardening product, and the resealable strip means no product wastage for the consumer. They also offer maximum packing efficiency and help to reduce transport costs as you can fit more into the same-sized outer box. The Rebrand The Packaging More case studies* * Like what you see? - Published: 2023-06-26 - Modified: 2023-09-25 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/case-study/lodi/ Standardising a range for maximum quality, efficiency and appeal PACKAGING DEVELOPMENT FOR LODI UK Improving a packaging range to improve shelf presence & brand awareness* We embarked on a recent project with Lodi UK, a high quality pest control brand who were looking to improve the packaging concept of one of its retail product ranges to help improve shelf presence, whilst also reducing the material content of the packaging without compromising quality. By moving away from a pouch that was sealed on three sides to a more traditional style pouch with a resealable strip, not only were we able to source a pouch with a two layer material instead of three, we could also increase efficiency on our automated production line to help achieve a price point for contract packing their range. The Solution More case studies* * Like what you see? - Published: 2023-06-07 - Modified: 2023-09-25 - URL: https://glowcroft.co.uk/case-study/skinners-pet-food/ New recyclable packs for the exciting Field & Trial sample range IMPROVING YOUR PACKAGING FORMAT Working together to improve packing efficiency and packaging recyclability* Glowcroft have a long-standing relationship with Skinner’s and when it was time to evolve the format and recyclability of their dog food sample range, we worked together to find the best solution for the brand and the environment. It was essential to the Skinner’s ethos that the sample packs be 100% recyclable but any material used must not compromise on the quality of finished product associated with the brand. Our solution was a move to a digitally printed sachet format that could reduce material used, ensure that the packaging was fully recyclable and at the same time guarantee fantastic print quality that would not let the new vibrant and iconic brand image down. The Solution “When looking to improve our sample packs, Glowcroft were there to offer sound advice. Their continued professionalism and willingness to help made for a faultless transition . Not only were they a pleasure to work with, but when common sense is applied and a pragmatic approach taken, the results speak for themselves. We made the change from a previous format into a new, branded, form filler pouch. The project was taken from the conceptual stage working with Glowcroft’s internal design team through to production. As a result, this has not only resulted is cost savings but a better and improved format as well. This is testament to the hard work and dedication they provide to their customers. ” BEN SKINNER, SKINNERS More... > Glowcroft Limited Williamsport Way, Lion Barn Industrial Estate, Needham Market, Suffolk, IP6 8RW Tel: 01449 723330 | Web: www.glowcroft.co.uk | Email: hello@glowcroft.co.uk Glowcroft is a trusted contract packing partner for brands across the UK.
