Fertiliser doesn’t behave like most products that pass through a packing line. Get the traceability wrong, or lose control of who’s handling a pallet and where it ends up, and the consequences go well beyond a customer complaint, they touch public safety.
That’s the standard our horticulture customers hold their supply chain to. It’s why we’ve spent the last several months preparing our horticultural packing operation for independent audit against the Fertiliser Industry Assurance Scheme, and as such we’re proud to confirm: Glowcroft is FIAS accredited.
What FIAS actually checks
FIAS is the UK’s industry-led assurance scheme for fertiliser safety, security and traceability, run by the Agricultural Industries Confederation. It covers everyone who touches a fertiliser product on its way to the field: manufacturers, packers, merchants, hauliers and storage sites. It’s independently audited by Kiwa.
The scheme exists because fertiliser, done badly, is a security risk as much as a quality one. FIAS sets out how it should be stored, handled and moved so that it only ever ends up where it’s meant to: on legitimate agricultural, horticultural, forestry or commercial amenity land, and nowhere else.
Getting accredited meant an external audit of exactly how we run our horticultural lines: stock segregation, site security, documentation, traceability from goods-in to despatch, and how our team is trained to spot and handle anything that looks wrong. We passed it because it’s close to how we already run the site – FIAS just puts an independent stamp on it.
What it means for the brands we pack for
For the horticulture brands we work with, this isn’t a certificate on a wall. It changes what you can rely on us for.
- Full traceability, backed by evidence. Every batch we pack can be traced through our site with documentation that stands up to external audit, not just internal record-keeping.
- A packing partner that meets your own supply chain requirements. If your customers, retailers or regulators ask you to demonstrate that your supply chain is assured, we’re now part of the answer rather than a gap in it.
- Tighter security around a genuinely sensitive product category. Ammonium nitrate-based fertilisers carry real security considerations. FIAS accreditation means our handling, storage and dispatch controls have been independently tested against that risk, not just assumed.
- Fewer approval hurdles. Many fertiliser manufacturers and merchants already require FIAS certification from anyone in their supply chain. Where that’s been a condition of doing business, it no longer needs a conversation.
- Confidence that scales with you. As your volumes grow, so does the scrutiny on your supply chain. Having this in place now means it’s one less thing to solve for later.
None of this changes how we work with you day to day. It’s the same team, the same site, the same accountability we’ve always operated with. What’s changed is that an independent body has now checked our work and agrees.
